To the Hon [i.e. Honorable] Secretary of War: –

The undersigned a junior 2nd Lieutenant in Company “D” 19th Reg [i.e. Regiment] Texas Cavalry, Col. Nat M. Burford commanding begs leave respectfully to represent that by reason of great impaired health & constantly increasing disease of long standing, he finds it impossible to undergo the exposures unavoidable in Camp life. He therefore, though reluctantly, tenders this his resignation.

I certify that I have carefully examined A R. Fancher a junior 2nd Lt. Company D, 19th Regt. Texas Cavalry, commanded by Col. Nat. M. Burford, and find him unable to perform the duties of a soldier because of chronic bronchitis and Rheumatism, and would recommend the acceptance of his resignation.
